Jade Thirlwall’s Bar Launches Urgent Training for Winter Safety

UPDATE: Jade Thirlwall’s bar, Arbeia, in South Shields, has just launched vital vulnerability training aimed at enhancing safety for patrons this winter. Staff from Arbeia were among the first to participate, alongside employees from local pubs, clubs, and restaurants, in a program delivered by the Northumbria Police’s Violence Reduction Unit.

The urgent initiative was announced earlier today, where Police and Crime Commissioner Susan Dungworth emphasized the importance of community safety during the busy winter months. The training equips bar staff, door supervisors, and club managers with essential skills to identify vulnerable individuals and provide timely support.

The program’s rollout comes as part of a coordinated effort to prevent violence and build safer communities in South Tyneside. The training includes practical sessions on recognizing signs of vulnerability and assessing risks, making it a crucial addition to the local nightlife scene.

In her remarks, Jade Thirlwall stated, “We’re really proud that Arbeia was one of the first venues to take part in this important training. Creating a safe and welcoming environment for everyone who comes through our doors has always been a top priority for us.”

The initiative is part of a broader strategy from the Violence Reduction Unit, which includes plans for taxi marshals, increased police patrols, and youth diversionary activities funded by the Seasonal Violence Fund. These efforts aim to direct resources where they are most needed, ensuring community safety amid rising concerns over winter festivities.

Officials also highlighted the ongoing commitment to educational programs, including online sessions covering critical issues like knife crime and youth violence, which are designed to empower local youth and inform them about the consequences of risky decisions.

Chief Superintendent Aelf Sampson, Area Commander for South Tyneside, added, “Our region is renowned for having a vibrant and welcoming nightlife. We work collaboratively with our partners to ensure it stays that way.” He noted that the training will enhance the ability of staff to identify individuals who may be under the influence of alcohol or substances, ensuring support is readily available.

As the winter season approaches, the message from local authorities is clear: everyone in the community has a role in promoting safety. In a joint effort, businesses and police are united in their goal to provide a secure environment for all, especially as holiday festivities ramp up.

The next steps for local venues include implementing the skills learned in training and continuing to collaborate with law enforcement to foster a safer nightlife experience.

The community is encouraged to remain vigilant and proactive in looking out for one another, especially during this bustling season. With the added support from trained staff at local establishments, residents and visitors alike can enjoy the winter festivities with greater peace of mind.

Stay tuned for further updates as this important initiative continues to develop.
