Five Arrested in Bristol Protest: Police Confirm Outside Travelers

UPDATE: Five individuals have been arrested during a heated protest in Bristol yesterday, all confirmed to have traveled from outside the city, police report. The clashes erupted between an anti-immigration group known as the ‘Bristol Patriots’ and counter-protesters advocating against fascism and racism.

The protest began at approximately 1 PM on November 16, 2025, at Redcliff Hill in Redcliffe, where tensions escalated rapidly. Authorities confirmed that the five arrested individuals hailed from various locations across the UK: one from Cornwall, one from Richmond-upon-Thames, and two from Portsmouth, alongside a woman from London.

Details of the arrests reveal serious allegations. A 22-year-old man from Cornwall is facing charges for allegedly assaulting an emergency worker, while a 25-year-old man from Richmond-upon-Thames is also accused of the same offense. Additionally, a 43-year-old man and a 20-year-old man, both from Portsmouth, were arrested for similar charges, with the latter also facing charges for obstructing a police officer. The 37-year-old woman from London was arrested for failing to provide her details when requested.

Police are continuing to investigate the incidents, including assaults against officers at the scene. One officer was taken to the hospital due to injuries sustained during the protest but has since been discharged, according to a police spokesperson.

Chief Inspector Keith Smith expressed disappointment over the disorder caused by certain counter-protesters. “It is unacceptable that officers have been assaulted,” he stated. “We are conducting thorough investigations into each incident to bring those responsible to justice.”

The situation remains tense as further inquiries are underway. The police have assured the public that the welfare of the assaulted officers is a top priority.

As these events unfold, Bristol has become a focal point for discussions on immigration and civil rights, with protests reflecting deeper societal divides. The presence of political figures like Nick Tenconi, leader of the United Kingdom Independence Party, who labeled Bristol a “communist run hell-hole,” adds a layer of complexity to the ongoing narrative.

Stay tuned for updates as authorities continue to manage the aftermath of this significant protest and the legal proceedings against those arrested.
