Ryan Garcia Charged With Vandalism After Ruining Luxury Hotel Room
Garcia’s situation is progressively deteriorating. Star boxer Ryan Garcia was charged with misdemeanor vandalism following his reported outburst at the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills.
Garcia faced the initial accusation of the crime on June 8 when authorities alleged that he lost control and damaged a room and hallway at a high-end hotel in the Los Angeles area.
It is another case to add to the boxer’s year of making bad decisions and facing the repercussions.
On Thursday morning, George Gascón, the District Attorney of Los Angeles County, made an official announcement of charges against Garcia.
Causing damage or destruction to property totaling $400 or higher constitutes one charge of vandalism.
If found guilty, he could potentially be sentenced to a maximum of one year behind bars. He is scheduled to go before a judge on August 7.
Gascón stated in a public release that although no injuries were reported, damaging property due to reckless behavior demonstrates a clear and unacceptable disrespect for the safety and harmony of our community.
Our office will strive to ensure the person responsible is made to answer for their actions.
This recent vandalism accusation is just the latest in a series of problems Ryan Garcia has faced. In April, Garcia went up against Devin Haney in a fight.
The original reason for the match was to determine the winner of the WBC super lightweight championship.
Regrettably, Garcia exceeded the weight limit by 3.2 pounds during the weigh-in. Garcia and Haney made a deal where the person who missed a pound would have to pay $500 thousand.
Garcia lost $1.5 million due to that choice. In addition, Garcia lost almost $600 thousand of his prize money and was not able to compete for the title.
Following Garcia’s victory over Haney, a positive drug test rendered the outcome irrelevant. The fight was declared a no contest by the New York State Athletic Commission.
Garcia’s year went downhill when the NYSAC banned him for a year due to his use of performance-enhancing drugs. After that, the WBC kicked him out for using racist language.
Now, he is facing the possibility of being in jail. Garcia has been open in addressing his mental health struggles, but has apparently refused any offers of assistance.
A situation that could have been easily prevented for a former promising boxer.
