The Russian leader is reportedly transforming the historic Bocharov Ruchey residence into a fortified complex, following heightened fears stemming from Ukrainian drone attacks.
The original structure, a former Soviet retreat on the Black Sea, has undergone significant renovations, including the construction of new underground bunkers. According to independent Russian media outlet Proekt, the complex has been extensively rebuilt after Putin expressed discomfort with the security of the previous residence and its grandeur.
Plans for the site include the establishment of a comprehensive security perimeter, which will encompass a designated “lockdown zone” measuring approximately 1.2 square miles. This area will be subject to sweeping restrictions imposed by Russia’s elite Federal Protective Service (FSO), which is tasked with the president’s protection.

Leaked documents suggest that the new security measures will prohibit various activities within the vicinity of the palace. Bans will extend to drones, shooting clubs, paintball venues, and any events involving replica weapons near the grounds. The security controls will also apply to the coastal waters surrounding the palace, with fishing vessels and leisure boats being barred from approaching the residence.
