Pant WI Raises Funds for Horse Therapy Program Benefitting Disabled

The Pant Women’s Institute (WI) has successfully raised £165.84 for horse therapy programs benefiting individuals with disabilities. This fundraising effort, presented by President Janet Jones, highlights the organization’s commitment to supporting therapeutic riding initiatives that have been making a difference since the 1960s.

Established on the premise that horse therapy can provide significant benefits for those with disabilities and long-term health conditions, the program fosters empowerment through equestrian activities. Participants, including children and adults, engage in riding sessions that not only improve their physical health but also enhance their mental well-being, communication, and social skills.

Impact of Horse Therapy on Participants

The connection between horse and rider has proven to be transformative. Riders learn to develop basic riding skills before progressing to more advanced activities such as countryside challenges and pony games. Additionally, they can participate in dressage, showjumping, and carriage driving competitions.

This unique interaction allows horses to sense the emotions of their riders, often providing a calming presence that boosts self-esteem and confidence. The impact of these sessions is evident, with many participants expressing pride as they receive certificates and rosettes for their achievements.

A short film presented during the meeting illustrated the positive effects of volunteering with the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA), demonstrating that the benefits extend beyond the riders to those who support the program.

At the recent presentation, funds were raised through a competition titled “A horse in any medium.” The winner, Caroline Buxton, was followed closely by Janet Jones in second place and Margaret Williams in third. This competition not only showcased artistic talent but also reinforced the community’s engagement with the cause.

Community Engagement and Future Initiatives

The Pant WI meets monthly at the Pant Memorial Institute, with gatherings held on the first Thursday of every month at 19:15. The upcoming meeting in April will feature a presentation on “Eco-friendly Swaps” by Kelly Kraus, further reflecting the organization’s commitment to community education and sustainability.
