UPDATE: Honda has just confirmed a major overhaul for the ZR-V SUV in Japan, transitioning to a hybrid-only powertrain and eliminating the previous 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine. This transformative update is set to launch in March 2026, marking a pivotal shift in Honda’s vehicle lineup.
The refreshed ZR-V will now feature a 2.0-litre Atkinson-cycle engine paired with an e-CVT gearbox. This new setup produces 141 PS and 182 Nm of torque, aligning with Honda’s commitment to eco-friendly driving solutions. The hybrid system allows the petrol engine to generate electricity while driving the wheels when necessary, enhancing efficiency and performance.
The ZR-V is built on the same platform as the latest Civic, which ensures a modern driving experience. With the integration of advanced technology, the SUV will now offer Google Assistant, enabling drivers to control music, make calls, and send messages via voice commands. Real-time navigation through Google Maps will also be included, providing seamless connectivity and convenience.
The variant lineup has been simplified, with the previous X trim discontinued. The main offering will be the Z trim, alongside two special editions: the Black Style and Cross Touring. The Black Style edition features a striking Grey Metallic exterior and an all-black interior, while the Cross Touring edition stands out with its rugged design and Desert Beige body color.
In addition to aesthetic changes, the main Z trim will boast a 9-inch Honda CONNECT touchscreen, the Honda SENSING safety suite, and a premium 12-speaker BOSE sound system. Other luxurious features include a 10.2-inch digital instrument display, dual-zone automatic climate control, and heated leather seats.
This bold move comes as Honda aims to strengthen its position in the competitive SUV market, paving the way for future innovations. Although the ZR-V is set for a Japanese release, reports suggest it may also make its way to India later in 2026, potentially competing with popular models like the Volkswagen Tiguan.
Stay tuned for more updates as Honda prepares for the official launch, where pricing and additional details will be announced. This refreshed ZR-V is expected to appeal to environmentally conscious consumers looking for a stylish and tech-savvy SUV.
