Over 1,000 Children Engage in Science at Festival of Tomorrow

More than 1,000 children participated in a week-long celebration of technology and science at the Brunel Shopping Centre in Swindon. The event, part of the annual Festival of Tomorrow, took place during the February half-term and featured hands-on workshops designed to inspire young minds.

Themed “Living in the Future,” the festival offered a wide array of free, interactive activities focused on subjects such as engineering, space, sound, music, nature, climate, and chemistry. The diverse programming aimed to engage children and their families in exploring critical concepts in an enjoyable setting.

Louise Halliday, head of programming and outreach for the Festival of Tomorrow, expressed her excitement about the event’s success. “It has been wonderful to see so many families enjoying these free activities together in the heart of the town,” she said. Halliday highlighted the significance of the Brunel Shopping Centre as a community hub, stating, “The turnout at The Brunel was fantastic, proving once again what a vital space this is for bringing our local community together through discovery and play.”

In addition to the workshops, attendees had the opportunity to participate in a popular Robot Trail, which guided them through various attractions at The Brunel. This engaging activity allowed children to explore the venue while learning about technology and robotics.

Tim Knowles, founder and managing director at FI Real Estate Management, which oversees the Brunel, emphasized the importance of offering such activities at no cost. “Offering these activities for free gives parents a hands-on option and helps inspire curiosity in the next generation,” he noted.

The festival not only provided educational experiences but also fostered a sense of community among families, encouraging them to explore and learn together. The positive response from participants illustrates the value of initiatives that promote science and technology in accessible and engaging ways.

Overall, the Festival of Tomorrow successfully captivated the imaginations of young attendees and their families, setting a precedent for future events centered on learning and discovery.
