Millie Radford Opens Up About Husband’s Health Crisis and Family Struggles

Millie Radford, star of the reality show 22 Kids and Counting, has shared her concerns regarding her husband, Harley Radford, following a significant health scare that left him unable to work. During an upcoming episode set to air on October 22, 2023, Harley recounts the troubling moment when he was rushed to the hospital after experiencing slurred speech and weakness on one side of his body.

In the wake of this medical emergency, Millie felt compelled to return to work while Harley remained at home caring for their three children. The couple’s financial situation has become increasingly strained, prompting Millie to seek employment after a five-year hiatus focused on motherhood. She expressed her feelings about this transition, stating, “I clean caravans, which is just what I love to do. All I’ve known is staying at home and being a mother… but I did enjoy it.”

Millie’s mother also commented on the situation, expressing surprise at her daughter’s decision to return to work. “She’s always struck me as a mother who wanted to be there for the key moments of her kids growing up. So this has shocked me a bit,” she said. She further noted her concern about Harley managing the children alone, given that he had not previously cared for them without Millie’s presence.

While managing the household and their children, Harley revealed the details of his health episode, describing, “My face drooped on my left side… and the next thing, I just felt really weak in my left side.” Footage from the show captures Harley in a hospital bed, where he admits, “I am scared. I think anyone would be scared if they thought they had a stroke at such a young age.” Medical professionals diagnosed him with Bell’s palsy, although the precise trigger for the condition remains uncertain. Harley shared, “The doctors did say it was a thing called Bell’s palsy… but I do feel like it was stress because of work and the kids.”

Now at 24 years old, Harley expressed how the health scare has impacted his daily life. “It has changed me. I am more stressed. I’m just scared to do my normal day-to-day stuff, like going to work,” he noted. His anxiety has been compounded by financial pressures and the responsibilities of parenting. Millie reflected on her husband’s struggles, saying, “He’s got a lot going on at the minute… His health scare has caused him to have really bad anxiety.”

In an effort to boost Harley’s spirits, Millie surprised the family with a new puppy named Bella. Unfortunately, their joy quickly turned to concern when they discovered a lump on Bella’s abdomen. With veterinary costs estimated at £2,500, the family faces the heartbreaking possibility of having to make difficult decisions regarding their pet’s future. Recognizing their financial strain, the couple has decided to sell belongings to raise the necessary funds for Bella’s treatment.

The emotional journey of the Radford family highlights the challenges they face as they navigate health issues, financial pressures, and parenting responsibilities. The upcoming episode of 22 Kids and Counting will delve deeper into these themes, airing on Channel 5 at 20:00 on Sunday.
