New Independence Group Launches Amid Scottish Election Urgency

BREAKING: A new political force advocating for Scottish independence has emerged, as the Alliance to Liberate Scotland (ALS) officially registers as a political party. This critical development was confirmed by the Electoral Commission last week, allowing ALS to field candidates in the upcoming Scottish Parliament elections.

Brian Nugent, leader of the Sovereignty party, has expressed strong support for ALS, emphasizing the urgency of their mission. Nugent stated that ALS will collaborate with both Sovereignty and the Independence for Scotland Party (ISP) to form a robust coalition of independence advocates across Shetland and beyond. “We aim to promote uncompromising action on independence,” Nugent declared.

This move comes at a pivotal time, with recent polls indicating that support for independence remains steady at approximately 45–48 percent. In contrast, support for the incumbent Scottish National Party (SNP) has dipped to between 31–35 percent. Nugent believes this shift presents a significant opportunity to engage an additional 20 percent of voters who are seeking a “dedicated, vigorous pro-independence alternative.”

“We exist to replace the lack of vigour from the SNP leadership on this vital issue,” Nugent said. He criticized the SNP for failing to act on the mandate secured during the 2015 UK election, where they garnered enough votes to push for independence. “They should have declared UDI—unilateral declaration of independence. UDI is our plan, our intention.”

The formation of ALS introduces a new dynamic to the Scottish independence movement, aiming to galvanize public support ahead of the elections. Nugent’s rallying cry resonates with many who feel disillusioned by the SNP’s perceived inaction on independence.

Nugent’s comments highlight the urgency of this political landscape, stating, “We need to persuade voters to back us and back independence.” As the elections approach, all eyes will be on this coalition and their efforts to reshape the future of Scotland.
