The first International Children’s Theatre Festival will take place from May 25 to May 31, 2024, in Danilovgrad, organized by the local Centre for Culture. This inaugural event aims to showcase a selection of the highest quality professional theatre performances designed for young audiences. Each day of the festival will feature one performance, followed by discussions with a children’s jury.
In addition to the main performances, the festival will offer a variety of accompanying events and creative workshops focused on culture and the arts. These activities will be held outdoors or in public squares, providing an interactive experience for attendees.
The festival’s artistic team includes prominent theatre figures such as director and professor Petar Pejaković, actress Jelena Simić, and actor Slaviša Grubiša. The editorial team comprises psychologist and producer Marija Bačković, actress Danica Rajković, and actor Stevan Vuković. Together, they aim to create a rich and engaging environment for both performers and audiences.
In the lead-up to the festival, the Centre for Culture in Danilovgrad has announced an art competition for the best drawing or painting on the theme of the “International Children’s Theatre Festival in Danilovgrad.” This initiative encourages children to directly participate in the festival’s creation. The competition is open to all primary school children in Montenegro, including those from the Day Care Centre for children with developmental disabilities and adults with disabilities in Danilovgrad.
The goal is to foster an inclusive environment where every child can express their creativity and talent. Submitted works will be presented to the public at the end of February during an exhibition dedicated to the festival. Notably, the three highest-rated pieces will become part of the festival’s official visual identity. Schools will inform children about the festival’s program and activities, ensuring widespread community engagement.
The competition aims to motivate children to contribute to this new cultural event and actively participate in the cultural life of their community. The submission deadline for entries is February 21, 2024. This festival represents a significant step towards enriching the cultural landscape in Danilovgrad, offering children an opportunity to engage with the performing arts in a meaningful way.
