Adam Henson Welcomes 14 New Piglets at Gloucestershire Farm

Fans of the BBC show Countryfile were thrilled as presenter Adam Henson announced the birth of 14 piglets at his Gloucestershire farm. Henson, who has been a fixture on the program since 2001, shared the news with his followers on Instagram on February 1, 2024, showcasing the adorable arrivals and expressing his joy as a farmer.

In an engaging video, Henson revealed his routine of checking on animals before settling down for the night. He noted that he had anticipated the birth of one of his sows, a Landrace pig, and explained the signs that indicated she was close to farrowing. “If you can draw milk from them and they’ve got a big udder, they’re pretty much within the next twelve hours, they’re going to give birth,” he explained.

Henson then entered the pen to introduce his audience to the piglets, highlighting the farm’s “freedom farrowing pen.” This setup is designed to ensure the safety of the piglets, allowing them to feed while minimizing the risk of being accidentally squashed. “What happens sometimes, because the sows are so big and the piglets are so little, they occasionally get squashed by the sow,” he said. “But when you’ve got a setup like this, it makes them a lot safer.”

Providing an update on the sow’s wellbeing, Henson expressed satisfaction with the birth process. “She’s got 14 piglets and she’s cleansed, which means she’s passed the afterbirth. So, I’m happy with that,” he said. He emphasized the commitment of farmers across the country to care for their animals around the clock.

The announcement received a warm response from fans, many of whom took to the comments section to express their delight. One follower wrote, “Good morning Adam, thank you for showing us lovely, sweet piglets,” while another remarked, “I found myself instantly smiling at this. Thank you.”

Henson’s recent update follows another significant event at his farm, where he highlighted the importance of microchipping two new foals during a recent episode of Countryfile. He underlined the necessity of proper documentation for the Exmoor Pony Society, emphasizing the breed’s rarity and the importance of conservation efforts. “The Exmoor Pony is still very rare… So, we’re really just doing our bit for rare breeds conservation and keeping this gorgeous breed going,” he stated.

As a prominent figure in agricultural media, Henson has extended his reach beyond Countryfile to other programs such as Countryfile Summer Diaries and Inside Out. Additionally, he contributes to BBC Radio 4’s On Your Farm and Farming Today. When not on-screen, he manages his own farming enterprise from Bemborough Farm, which also serves as Cotswolds Farm Park, attracting thousands of visitors each year.

Fans and followers can continue to enjoy Henson’s updates and insights into farming life, offering a glimpse into the hard work and dedication that goes into agriculture. This connection between Henson and his audience fosters appreciation for the role of farmers in providing food and maintaining animal welfare.
