Cassandra Boswell, who claims she was discriminated against due to her “severe depression,” is now suing the luxury retreat for over $20,000 after being asked to leave on January 3, 2024.
Boswell’s stay began on December 27, 2023, but her visit quickly spiraled out of control. Elysia management cited a series of troubling incidents, including her dog, Bella, causing chaos during group sessions and in the dining area. Court documents reveal shocking details, including that Bella urinated on the floor and vomited in the restaurant, prompting multiple guest complaints.
On one occasion, Boswell reportedly used a face washer to clean up after her dog and then threw it at another guest, telling them to “not touch your dog ever again.” Elysia’s staff described her behavior as “abusive and unacceptable,” stating that Boswell’s outbursts included offensive language directed at other guests.
Despite her claims of discrimination, the retreat’s management has firmly defended their actions, asserting that Boswell was removed due to her “abusive behavior” rather than her mental health status. The retreat is renowned among Australian celebrities and offers a serene escape, but Boswell contended it was unsuitable for her needs, alleging it catered to “wealthy CEOs, alcoholics, and obese men and women.”
Following her eviction, Boswell claimed she had to “hitchhike” approximately 70 km to Newcastle Airport to return home to Melbourne, after her planned 11-night stay costing nearly $8,000 was abruptly cut short. The case has since been dismissed by the Federal Circuit Court of Australia, as her complaint was lodged late with the Australian Human Rights Commission.
