Tickets for the Isle of Man premiere of the acclaimed musical ‘Come From Away’ are now available. The production, presented by Two Feathers Productions, will take place at the Gaiety Theatre from July 10 to 18, 2024. This marks the first time the award-winning show, celebrated for its emotional depth, will be performed on the island.
“Come From Away” is widely regarded as one of the most successful musicals of the past decade.
The show tells the true story of 7,000 airline passengers who found themselves stranded in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland, after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. With US airspace closed, 38 international flights were redirected to Gander International Airport, effectively doubling the town’s population overnight. Local residents, aided by neighboring communities, opened their homes and provided food and care to thousands of unexpected visitors.
The musical weaves together a series of interrelated stories, showcasing both the experiences of the stranded passengers and the compassion of the Gander community. Among the characters is Captain Beverley Bass, one of the first female commercial airline pilots in the world, alongside a diverse cast of travelers and locals. Their collective actions have become a symbol of generosity during a time of global uncertainty.
The Isle of Man production is under the direction and choreography of Tara Overfield-Wilkinson, who previously served as associate director and choreographer for the West End and UK tour of ‘Come From Away’. The musical direction will be jointly managed by Steve Daykin and David Kilgallon, with David Holland also contributing to the creative team.
The cast features 12 talented island performers, each taking on multiple roles throughout the show. Lauren Molyneux will portray Beverley Bass, while Alex Toohey will play Claude, the mayor of Gander. Other notable cast members include Neil Callin as Oz, the town’s police constable, and Lisa Dancox as Beulah, among others.
Two Feathers Productions is establishing a strong footprint in the Isle of Man’s performing arts scene. Their recent production of Jersey Boys enjoyed a sold-out run at the Gaiety Theatre and earned the title of New Business of the Year at the Media Isle of Man Awards for Excellence 2024.
The upcoming performances of Come From Away will be a significant cultural event for the island.
Tickets can be purchased through the VillaGaiety website. The production has received sponsorship from Canaccord Wealth, ATLA Group, and Black Grace Cowley, with additional support from the Steam Packet Company and Manx Radio.
