Tinubu Appoints Three New Ambassadors to Key Nations

President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria has officially approved the appointments of three ambassadors to represent the country in key global locations. This decision follows the confirmation of 68 ambassadorial nominees by the Senate in December 2025.

In an announcement made on Thursday evening, the presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, revealed that the President has appointed Ambassador Ayodele Oke as the ambassador-designate to France. Additionally, Colonel Lateef Are (rtd) will serve as the ambassador-designate to the United States of America. The third appointment is Ambassador Amin Dalhatu, who previously held the position of ambassador to South Korea, now designated as the high commissioner to the United Kingdom.

Diplomatic Procedures Initiated

In his memo to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President Tinubu has directed that notifications be sent to the respective governments of France, the United States, and the United Kingdom regarding the new appointments. This action is in accordance with established diplomatic protocols, ensuring that the ambassadors-designate can commence their roles effectively.

The appointments come at a significant time as Nigeria continues to strengthen its diplomatic relations with these influential nations. The new ambassadors are expected to play crucial roles in advancing Nigeria’s interests abroad and enhancing bilateral cooperation.

Ambassador Oke, with his extensive experience in international relations, is anticipated to foster stronger ties between Nigeria and France, particularly in areas such as trade and cultural exchange. Colonel Are’s appointment to the United States is seen as pivotal, given the strategic partnership between the two countries. Meanwhile, Ambassador Dalhatu’s experience will be invaluable in managing Nigeria’s diplomatic efforts in the UK, a country with deep historical links to Nigeria.

These appointments reflect President Tinubu’s commitment to appointing qualified individuals to represent Nigeria on the global stage, aligning with his administration’s broader goals of enhancing Nigeria’s international image and influence.

As Nigeria continues to navigate complex global challenges, the roles of these ambassadors will be critical in facilitating dialogue and cooperation with key international partners.
