Netflix Unveils Trailer for Lisa McGee’s New Comedy-Thriller

Netflix has released the first trailer for its upcoming comedy-thriller, How to Get to Heaven from Belfast, created by Lisa McGee, renowned for her work on the hit series Derry Girls. The new series is set to premiere on February 12, 2024, offering viewers a glimpse into a captivating story that blends humor with suspense.

The narrative centers on three lifelong friends: Saoirse, a clever and chaotic television writer; Robyn, a glamorous yet stressed mother of three; and Dara, a dependable and somewhat inhibited carer. Now in their late 30s, this trio is thrust into an unexpected adventure following the news of the death of Greta, the estranged member of their childhood group. An email announcing Greta’s passing triggers a series of eerie events during her wake, leading them on a darkly comedic journey across Ireland and beyond as they unravel mysteries related to their past.

“This is the show I’ve always wanted to make; a mash-up of my two favourite genres, mystery and comedy,” said McGee in an interview with Tudum, Netflix’s companion site. She emphasized her desire to keep audiences both guessing and laughing throughout the series. “I can’t wait for you to meet Saoirse, Robyn, and Dara, and go on this wild, weird adventure with them — an Irish odyssey — full of twists, turns, and arguments about eyelash extensions.”

The leading roles are portrayed by Roísín Gallagher as Saoirse, Sinéad Keenan as Robyn, and Caoilfhionn Dunne as Dara. The series also features a variety of notable actors, including Ardal O’Hanlon, Peter Campion, and Erin Quinn, all of whom have previously collaborated with McGee on Derry Girls. Additionally, the cast includes Michelle Fairley from Game of Thrones, Natasha O’Keeffe and Emmett Scanlan from Peaky Blinders, and Bronagh Gallagher from The Commitments.

With a unique blend of humor and suspense, How to Get to Heaven from Belfast promises to be a refreshing addition to Netflix’s lineup, showcasing McGee’s talent for storytelling. As fans eagerly await the series release, the trailer hints at a thrilling experience that explores friendship, mystery, and the complexities of life.
