Apple Set to Launch Revamped Siri with AI Features by March 2024

Apple is preparing to introduce a significantly upgraded version of Siri, infused with artificial intelligence capabilities, potentially by March 2024. After first revealing its vision over a year and a half ago, the tech giant faced numerous engineering challenges that delayed the rollout of these enhancements. However, recent developments suggest that users may soon experience the benefits of a reimagined Siri.

Upcoming Features and Enhancements

During the World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024, Apple announced three primary upgrades for Siri, now branded as part of Apple Intelligence. Initially slated for release in iOS 18.4, the launch was postponed due to technical difficulties with the underlying engineering stack. Apple ultimately decided to completely rebuild Siri, leveraging a new large language model (LLM) infrastructure.

Current reports indicate that Apple is considering using Google Gemini to power some of these features. If this collaboration proceeds, the implementation will utilize Private Cloud Compute, ensuring that user data remains confidential and not accessible to Google. In a recent update, Macworld’s Filipe Esposito revealed that the new Siri functionalities are expected to be included in the upcoming iOS 26.4.

Generative AI Search Engine on the Horizon

In addition to the Siri upgrades, Apple is reportedly developing its own generative AI search engine. This project was first mentioned in August 2023 and is gaining traction. According to tech analyst Mark Gurman, the search engine may debut concurrently with iOS 26.4, potentially in March 2024.

While an exact release date for iOS 26.4 remains unconfirmed, historical patterns suggest that it is likely to launch in either March or April. This timeline indicates that the first beta version could be available for testing as early as next month, allowing users to experience the upgraded Siri in less than six weeks.

As Apple gears up for this significant update, the tech community is closely watching how these advancements will enhance user interaction and overall functionality. With the integration of AI, the company aims to position Siri as a more competitive player in the rapidly evolving landscape of digital assistants.
