Borno Governor Zulum Breaks Ground on Two Major Schools in Hawul

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has initiated the construction of two significant educational institutions in the Hawul Local Government Area. The development includes a 48-classroom High Islamic College in Shafa, which began on March 6, 2024. This institution will follow the accredited curriculum of the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS) to provide a comprehensive and modern Islamic education.

The establishment of these mega schools aligns with Governor Zulum’s campaign commitments to enhance educational offerings in the region. Zulum emphasized that the High Islamic Colleges will integrate formal education with authentic Islamic teachings. The curriculum aims to encompass digital literacy, numeracy, and vocational skills, ensuring that students receive a well-rounded education.

In addition to the Shafa project, a second mega school is planned for Marama. This initiative is part of the Zulum administration’s broader strategy to improve access to quality educational facilities across various local government areas. During the foundation-laying ceremony, Zulum expressed his commitment to education, stating, “I am happy to lay the foundation of a mega school in Marama Town. We are going to support you in all ramifications. In line with my campaign promises to deliver and transform the education sector, this government will construct a befitting two-storey building with 36 classrooms and additional facilities.”

Recognizing the current shortage of qualified educators in the area, the governor announced plans for the recruitment of competent teachers, particularly local indigenes, to staff the new schools. He noted the importance of having teachers who understand the community’s needs and values.

During his visit to Hawul, Governor Zulum was accompanied by various officials, including Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume and former Deputy Governors Usman Mamman Durkwa and Ali Abubakar Jatau. They joined him in the inauguration of several local projects, including a shopping complex and market stalls, further showcasing the administration’s commitment to community development.

Zulum also visited the National Orthopaedic Hospital in Azare, which has been rehabilitated and donated by the state government. This facility aims to expedite healthcare services in the region, reflecting the governor’s focus on improving both education and health infrastructure.

By investing in these educational facilities, Governor Zulum aims to create a lasting impact on the community, ensuring that students in Hawul have access to quality education that prepares them for the future. As the projects progress, local residents and stakeholders remain hopeful about the positive changes these initiatives will bring.
