Activist Warns of Flooding as Zeta River Reaches Homes in Danilovgrad

Flooding concerns have emerged in the village of Pažici in Danilovgrad as the Zeta River has reached the first homes. This alarming development was shared on social media by Vuk Iković, a civic and environmental activist as well as a council member of the Preokret Movement in the Danilovgrad Municipal Assembly.

Iković claims that the Hydro Power Plant “Perućica” is influencing the water levels of the Zeta River. He stated that if the plant reduces its operational capacity over the next three days, residents will have a better chance of remaining in their homes. The situation has prompted calls for action from local authorities.

Iković urged the leadership of the Municipality of Danilovgrad to press the management of EPCG (Electric Power Company of Montenegro) to prioritize the safety of citizens over energy production. He emphasized that human lives should take precedence over kilowatts, highlighting the urgent need for local governance to address this pressing issue.

The situation in Pažici underscores the critical balance between energy production and environmental safety, as communities grapple with the implications of hydroelectric power on their livelihoods. As the waters of the Zeta River continue to rise, the pressure mounts on officials to respond effectively to safeguard the residents of Danilovgrad.
