Affectionate Dog Balu Seeks Forever Home After Hardship

Balu, a five-year-old crossbreed dog, has spent his life searching for a loving home, but has consistently been overlooked due to his disability. Rescued from the streets of Portugal in 2023, Balu underwent surgery to repair fractured bones in his legs. Now, despite his unique mobility challenge, he moves comfortably and has a distinct spring in his step.

Currently in Portugal, Balu is available for adoption through the charity Miracle’s Mission, which is dedicated to animal welfare. The organization is actively seeking a suitable home for him in the UK by 2026. A spokesperson for Miracle’s Mission described Balu as a “gentle, loving character” who develops strong loyalty once he becomes familiar with someone.

Balu’s personality shines through as he is described as shy around new people but affectionate with those he trusts. “He wants cuddles and love and will stick to your hip like glue,” the charity stated. Typical of the pointer breed, he is eager and curious, enjoying outdoor exploration. Balu is also playful and sociable with other dogs, currently sharing a kennel with a female companion.

Despite the challenges he faces, Balu has received extensive care from Portuguese veterinarians, who have explored various treatments to improve his movement. They believe that he would benefit from hydrotherapy once he settles into his new home in the UK. The spokesperson noted, “Balu has a permanent mobility impairment to his front leg but walks and runs well on it.”

To facilitate Balu’s adoption, travel fees of approximately £820 will apply. This fee covers the lengthy road journey to the UK. Miracle’s Mission has indicated that a payment plan can be arranged while final preparations are made for Balu’s travel.

Despite the charity’s efforts to promote Balu’s adoption on their Facebook page, no potential adopters have expressed interest so far. Miracle’s Mission, which operates primarily in the UK, Borneo, and Egypt, was founded in 2015 to address the severe street dog population in Borneo. The organization focuses on neutering stray animals to reduce the number of dogs and cats suffering on the streets.
