Recycling Christmas Trees in Liverpool: Drop-Off Locations Announced

Residents in Liverpool can recycle their real Christmas trees at designated drop-off points from January 2 to January 23, 2024. This initiative, organized by the Liverpool City Council, aims to promote environmentally friendly disposal of Christmas trees after the holiday season. With many households still illuminated by festive lights, the recycling program offers a responsible way to manage post-Christmas waste.

According to a YouGov survey, the majority of Britons opt for artificial trees, citing their reusability and perceived environmental benefits. Nevertheless, those who choose real trees can contribute positively by ensuring their trees are recycled. Once collected, the trees can be shredded into chippings for use in local parks or even to help support sand dunes in coastal areas, bolstering environmental protection efforts.

Residents can leave their trees at one of the 13 drop-off points across the city, which include:

– **Stanley Park, Priory Road car park**
– **Everton Park, Viewing Platform, Netherfield Road North**
– **Newsham Park, Gardener’s Drive, Sheil Road end**
– **Sefton Park, Review Field, Ullet Road Gate**
– **Croxteth Park, Oak Lane car park**
– **Wavertree Park, Tennis Centre car park**
– **Otterspool Promenade, first car park**
– **Calderstones Park, Calderstones Road car park**
– **Calderstones Park, Yew Tree Road car park**
– **Menlove Avenue Triangle, Menlove Gardens/Green Lane**
– **Long Lane Recreation Ground, Garston**
– **Alderfield Road, Speke, by Millwood**
– **Woolton High Street, Boys Club car park**

For those who prefer to deliver their trees directly, two household waste recycling centres are available: the Otterspool Recycling Centre on Jericho Lane and the Old Swan Household Waste Recycling Centre on Cheadle Avenue. Both centres operate daily from 08:00 to 17:00 during winter, closed only on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Several local charities are also participating in tree recycling efforts. The Woodlands Hospice will offer a Christmas tree collection service from January 5 to January 9. For a minimum donation of £15, volunteers will collect trees from a wide area, with all collected material chipped to maintain the nearby Bluebell Woods.

Similarly, St Joseph’s Hospice will begin tree collections from January 17 until January 21, with donations directed towards patient care. A minimum donation of £10 is required for trees under six feet, while those over six feet will require a donation of £20. Tree drop-offs will also be accepted at the hospice on Ince Road, Thornton, starting January 17. Bookings for this service will close on January 13.

Residents interested in booking a collection with St Joseph’s Hospice can do so through their website. This collaborative effort not only aids in responsible waste management but also supports local charities in their ongoing work. Recycling Christmas trees offers Liverpool residents a chance to contribute to both environmental sustainability and community support as the festive season concludes.
