Montenegro Suspends Degree Recognition from Megatrend University

The government of Montenegro has temporarily suspended the recognition of educational diplomas obtained from **Megatrend University** and its affiliated faculties. This decision, made on **October 23, 2023**, follows a recommendation from the **Ministry of Education, Science, and Innovation (MPNI)** due to the revocation of the university’s operational license.

The suspension affects degrees from several faculties, including the **Faculty of Culture and Media**, the **Faculty of Business Studies**, the **Faculty of Arts and Design**, the **Faculty of Law**, and the **Faculty of Geo-economics**. The MPNI stated that this measure is intended to protect Montenegro’s education system and labor market from the influence of unrecognized or illegal educational qualifications.

According to the MPNI, the halt in diploma recognition will remain in effect until the ministry acquires necessary information from the relevant authorities in **Serbia**. Following this, the duration of the suspension will be reassessed.

In an official statement, the MPNI emphasized its commitment to upholding regulations and taking necessary actions to safeguard the integrity of the educational framework in Montenegro. The ministry’s actions reflect a broader effort to ensure that all educational qualifications meet established legal and operational standards.

This development raises significant concerns for current students and graduates of Megatrend University, who may find their qualifications questioned in the job market. The situation is under close scrutiny as Montenegro aims to maintain high educational standards while navigating the complexities of regional educational policies.

The MPNI’s decision underscores the importance of regulatory compliance in higher education, aiming to prevent the proliferation of degrees that may not meet legitimate academic criteria. As this situation unfolds, the ministry will continue to monitor developments and communicate further actions to the public.
