URGENT UPDATE: Southwest Airlines is set to launch a groundbreaking new service connecting Las Vegas to the scenic beaches of Hilo, Hawaii, starting on August 6, 2026. This exciting development marks the first non-stop service to Hilo from the mainland U.S. since 2023, responding to high demand from travelers eager for direct access to Hawaii Island.
The new route will operate three times a week, utilizing the airline’s state-of-the-art Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. Flights will depart from Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) at 9:30 AM, arriving in Hilo at 12:35 PM on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Return flights will leave Hilo at 8:45 PM, landing back in Las Vegas at 5:10 AM the following day.
This service comes after United Airlines ceased its non-stop link to Hilo, leaving Southwest as the exclusive airline providing direct flights to this Hawaiian destination. Adam Decaire, Senior Vice President of Network Planning at Southwest Airlines, emphasized the significance of this route: “We heard you, Hilo. Las Vegas is important to you, and you’re important to us.”
The connection to Hilo is expected to significantly boost tourism and facilitate easier access for families traveling between Nevada and Hawaii. Hilo, known for its lush rainforest, warm climate, and stunning black sand beaches, remains a popular destination for U.S. travelers seeking a tropical getaway.
In addition to the Hilo route, Southwest Airlines will continue to expand its offerings from Las Vegas. By August 2026, the airline plans to operate a total of 75 domestic and international destinations. This includes new seasonal flights to Anchorage International Airport starting on May 15 and other international routes to Mexico launching on June 4.
With the introduction of the new Hilo service, Southwest Airlines is solidifying its position as a preferred choice for Hawaii-bound travelers. The airline has already established a strong presence in Hawaii since launching services in 2019 and is continuously looking for ways to enhance the travel experience, including plans for its first lounge at Honolulu Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL).
Travelers and residents of both Las Vegas and Hilo can now look forward to a more convenient travel option that connects them to family and leisure activities in both regions. The anticipation around this new non-stop service is palpable, and it’s sure to attract interest from vacationers eager to explore the beauty of Hawaii.
Stay tuned for more updates as the launch date approaches, and prepare for an exciting travel experience with Southwest Airlines.
