Sixes, a cricket-themed bar chain in the UK, has entered administration following a period of “challenging” trading. The venue, which boasts 16 locations across the country and is backed by notable England cricketers including Ben Stokes, announced this development today. The administration process has raised concerns about the future of all its branches, particularly with the confirmed closure of its Southampton venue.
FRP Advisory, appointed as administrators on December 6, 2023, has indicated that while some locations face uncertainty, others will remain operational during ongoing negotiations aimed at securing a rescue deal. The firm is currently in talks with various interested parties regarding a potential sale of the brand, which was established in 2020 by Calum Mackinnon and Andy Waugh.
Tony Wright, a joint administrator and partner at FRP Advisory, expressed optimism about the brand’s potential. He noted, “Sixes has built a strong brand in the social entertainment space with its unique venues proving very popular with customers.” He further acknowledged the challenges faced by some locations in an increasingly competitive market but emphasized the significant potential for the business moving forward.
In a bid to bolster its financial standing, Sixes secured funding from 4Cast Investment Group in 2023, which includes prominent cricket players such as Jofra Archer and Stuart Broad. The administrators are keen to ensure that customers can continue to enjoy their bookings, particularly as the busy Christmas period approaches.
Wright stated, “Our priority is to secure the best outcome for the business and its stakeholders while ensuring customers can continue to enjoy their bookings through the Christmas period and beyond. We’re confident that with the right investment and focus, Sixes can build on its core strengths.”
