Barbara Bjeliš Unveils ‘Afterlight’ Exhibit in Cetinje Today

URGENT UPDATE: Artist and designer Barbara Bjeliš has just opened her highly anticipated photography exhibit, ‘Afterlight’, at the Gallery of the Cultural Center of the Capital Cetinje. This exhibition, which explores themes of belonging, transience, and the connection between body and landscape, is now available for public viewing until January 14, 2024.

The ‘Afterlight’ series marks Bjeliš’s first solo presentation to the Cetinje audience, showcasing a visually rich photographic cycle developed through multi-exposure techniques using a small analog camera. Bjeliš embraces chance as a co-creator, weaving narratives that reflect a sense of belonging across diverse spaces and times.

Speaking at the opening, Bjeliš shared her unexpected journey to Cetinje, emphasizing its crucial role in the project’s realization.

“I found myself in Cetinje by a twist of fate. We were traveling through Montenegro and stumbled upon this gallery, which immediately captivated me. After a conversation, I was offered the opportunity to hold my exhibition here, and I gladly accepted,”

she stated.

The photographs on display reflect various periods, with some captured nearly a decade ago and others taken this year in Durmitor. This blend of old and new infuses the project with additional personal and temporal depth.

Bjeliš, a Zagreb native, holds a master’s degree in visual communications from the Design Studies. In 2018, she founded Studio Kanu and has since exhibited her works nationally and internationally. Notably, she won an award for best film poster at the SEECS Festival in Istanbul and currently resides in Oslo.

This exhibition not only enhances Cetinje’s cultural landscape but also invites viewers to engage with intimate reflections of nature and human existence. Don’t miss your chance to experience ‘Afterlight’—a powerful dialogue between the intimate and the natural world.
