The sister of reality television star Holly Hagan has tragically passed away from multi-organ failure following an overdose of MDMA. Nineteen-year-old Darci Rose Gibson died on October 20, 2023, after consuming the drug during a night out at Manchester’s popular Warehouse Project nightclub. An inquest into her death has revealed concerning details surrounding the circumstances leading to her untimely demise.
During the inquest at Manchester Coroner’s Court, acting senior coroner Zak Golombeck provided an overview of events. He stated that toxicology tests conducted on Darci’s blood and urine confirmed the presence of “high levels” of MDMA. The young woman suffered a cardiac arrest on the night of her outing and was subsequently rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment. Despite the medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries two days later.
The inquest revealed that Darci had mixed the drug into her drink while at the nightclub. Following her collapse, she was admitted to Manchester Royal Infirmary on October 18. Mr. Golombeck noted that she developed multi-organ failure during her hospitalization, ultimately leading to her death. He confirmed that a police coroner’s officer had informed him that there was a strong suspicion of illicit drug use at the time of her cardiac arrest.
In a statement read during the proceedings, Mr. Golombeck mentioned, “There was a suspicion at the time that she had taken illicit drugs. This was confirmed to the clinicians.” The provisional cause of death was listed as multi-organ failure due to an MDMA overdose, pending further investigation.
Following her sister’s passing, Holly Hagan expressed profound grief, describing herself as “traumatised” by the loss. She shared a poignant moment, stating that Darci “passed away peacefully holding my hand surrounded by my family and her best friends.”
