Emirates Ends A380 Service to Copenhagen, Boosts Flight Frequency

Emirates is set to conclude its Airbus A380 service to Copenhagen Kastrup Airport (CPH) in Denmark, with the final flights scheduled for May 31, 2026. The airline will transition from its flagship superjumbo to a more flexible daily service that increases overall capacity. This change reflects Emirates’ strategy to enhance passenger options and improve operational efficiency on this key European route.

The A380, which had only resumed flights to Copenhagen in January 2025, will be replaced by two daily flights utilizing smaller twin-engine aircraft from Emirates’ fleet, specifically the Airbus A350 and Boeing 777. The shift comes after a brief period during which the A380, configured with 58 lie-flat seats in Business Class and 557 Economy seats, catered to travelers connecting through Dubai International Airport (DXB) from various destinations.

Emirates had initially reintroduced the A380 to Copenhagen after a hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The airline last operated the superjumbo on this route in March 2020, before resuming services nearly five years later. During its time in Copenhagen, the A380 became an essential part of the airline’s European operations, marking the city as its 21st European destination serviced by this aircraft.

As scheduling data from aviation analytics firm Cirium indicates, the decision to remove the A380 from the route does not signify a reduction in capacity. Instead, Emirates plans to operate a daily rotation that combines the A350 and the Boeing 777, which collectively offer 719 seats daily in each direction. This represents a capacity increase of approximately 16.91% compared to the A380’s 615-seat configuration.

### New Flight Schedule Enhances Connectivity

Emirates has strategically aligned its flight timings to optimize connectivity for passengers. The new schedule includes a morning departure from Dubai at 07:30 local time, arriving in Copenhagen at 12:30 local time. This timing is advantageous for travelers arriving on early morning flights, allowing them an entire afternoon to explore the city. The return flight, EK152, will depart Copenhagen at 14:45, reaching Dubai by 00:55 the following day.

The decision to increase the frequency of flights from one A380 service to two smaller aircraft reflects Emirates’ commitment to meeting growing passenger demand. The carrier expects that the enhanced service will attract more connecting travelers through Dubai, thereby expanding its network of international connections.

Starting on June 1, 2026, the Boeing 777-300ER, with a capacity of 421 seats, will primarily serve the route alongside the 298-seat A350-900. Later in the year, Emirates plans to shift to the 777-200LR, which offers 302 seats, further diversifying its fleet on the route.

As Emirates transitions away from the A380 in Copenhagen, the airline continues to adapt to the evolving landscape of air travel. The A350 and Boeing 777 will provide a more versatile and efficient capacity solution, ensuring that Emirates remains a competitive player in the European market while meeting the needs of its passengers.
