UK Ministry of Defence Extends Light Mobility Vehicle Engagement Deadline

The UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) has announced an extension of the engagement deadline for its Light Mobility Vehicle (LMV) project, now set for March 3, 2026. This procurement initiative, which is anticipated to reach a total value of up to £900 million including VAT, aims to modernise the capabilities currently provided by vehicles like the Land Rover and Pinzgauer.

The updated preliminary market engagement notice was published by Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S). The LMV programme intends to deliver multiple vehicle options under a “common base platform” approach. This strategy is designed to enhance the Army’s operational effectiveness by providing a wheeled utility platform that can fulfill various warfighting roles across the Joint Force.

The MOD’s current timeline indicates that the contract will span six years, from April 30, 2027 to April 30, 2033. The procurement is categorized as a goods contract, with an estimated value of £750 million excluding VAT. The notice was recently updated on February 17, 2026, following an industry Market Interest Day held at Warminster Garrison on January 15, 2026.

To further engage with industry partners, the MOD has issued an initial Request for Information (RFI) to gather insights. It encourages responses both from individual companies and groups, with submissions requested by 17:00 on March 3, 2026. The RFI can be accessed via an online form, allowing for streamlined participation.

As part of this engagement, DE&S has released sections of its User Requirement Document, including critical user requirements. The department has clarified that this material is intended for guidance only and does not signify a commitment to proceed with the procurement as currently outlined.

The MOD retains the right to amend any details or features within the documentation. However, it invites feedback through the RFI process to tailor the programme to industry capabilities. Additionally, DE&S indicated that further early market engagement activities could occur throughout 2025 and 2026. These may include supplier briefs, RFIs, and supplier forum meetings, which will help shape the contracting approach.

It is important to note that this preliminary engagement does not mark the official start of the procurement process. A formal competition will only commence with the publication of a Tender Notice, ensuring transparency and competitive opportunity for interested parties.

The LMV project represents a significant step in enhancing the UK’s military capabilities, focusing on modernisation and adaptability to meet evolving operational demands.
