Shropshire School Celebrates Four Pupils in Prestigious Netball Roles

UPDATE: Wrekin College in Shropshire is making headlines as four of its students achieve remarkable success in netball, marking a significant milestone for the school. This comes just as the U19 squad celebrates another county title, underlining a decade of dominance with no losses in U19 county finals.

Currently, Millie Jacklin-Chatha has been selected for the England Roses U19 Academy Squad. Alongside her, former students Halee Robinson and Josie Pointon are also earning accolades. Halee, a former England U19 player, joins the prestigious London Pulse NexGen squad, while Josie has been appointed Head Coach for the England Roses Academy Squad. Additionally, Caitlin Tandy, in the Upper Sixth, is proudly representing the Republic of Ireland squad.

In a statement today, Caroline Ritchie-Morgan, Director of Netball at Wrekin, expressed her pride in these young athletes. “All of this success is so well-deserved,” she said. “Millie, Halee, Caitlin, and Josie are not only talented players but also inspiring individuals who have greatly contributed to our sports department.”

Caroline, who is also an England Roses selector and former winner of the Netball Teacher of the Year Award, emphasized the recent surge in netball’s popularity, stating, “The game has seen a real resurgence, inspiring the next generation of female athletes.”

Millie, reflecting on her journey, stated that Wrekin has been instrumental in her development. “My netball has gone from strength to strength thanks to the excellent coaching and opportunities available,” she said. “I’m excited to work towards my ultimate dream of representing England.”

Halee echoed these sentiments, crediting Wrekin for shaping her confidence and resilience during her time there. “Wrekin taught me adaptability and confidence, especially during lockdown while balancing A-levels and university applications,” she said. “The support I received was pivotal in achieving my goals.”

Wrekin College has become a key player in nurturing young talent, providing a development pathway for the Birmingham Panthers. With this latest round of selections, the school is poised to continue its legacy of excellence in netball.

Looking ahead, Wrekin is eagerly anticipating a visit from Josie, who will reconnect with young players currently in county academies and national squads. The momentum at Wrekin College is undeniable, and the community is excited to see what these talented individuals will achieve next.
