URGENT UPDATE: Montenegro has launched a series of crucial workshops focusing on the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on workplace health and safety. Just announced by the Ministry of Labor, Employment, and Social Dialogue and the Trade Union Confederation of Montenegro (SSCG), the first workshop took place at Plantaze AD, highlighting the need for proactive measures to tackle modern workplace challenges.
The workshop, titled “Workplace Education – AI in the Context of Health and Safety and Work-Life Balance,” aims to educate employees on pressing issues related to health and safety at work. With the increasing integration of digital tools and AI, this initiative addresses the rising concerns around mental health, chronic stress, and burnout.
Experts emphasize these issues are becoming more pronounced in today’s work environments, where the lines between professional and personal lives are increasingly blurred. Danka Cetkovic, a psychologist and HR consultant, addressed the audience, questioning whether AI is a friend or foe to workplace health, stating that it presents both opportunities and risks.
In light of these developments, participants were urged to engage in an open dialogue to identify their needs and perceptions regarding workplace safety. A significant focus was placed on less visible aspects of health and safety, particularly mental well-being.
Vladimir Krsmanovic, coordinator from SSCG, stressed the necessity of enhancing collective bargaining elements to adapt to the growing use of digital technologies and algorithmic management. The message was clear: social dialogue is crucial to mitigate the negative effects of algorithmic management and protect employee health and safety.
Authorities are keen to ensure that the collection and use of personal data comply with clear criteria, which can alleviate excessive monitoring of employees and safeguard their privacy. The workshop highlighted that mental health is not merely a personal concern but a foundational aspect of a healthy organization and society.
As these workshops continue, the Ministry and SSCG aim to foster a healthier work environment by addressing the psychological impacts of AI and advocating for better work-life balance. Stakeholders are encouraged to watch for upcoming sessions that promise to further address these critical issues.
The initiative aligns with the 2025 Action Plan and the 2022-2027 Strategy on improving workplace health and safety in Montenegro, marking a significant step forward in addressing contemporary challenges in the labor market.
Further updates are expected as additional workshops are scheduled, aiming to equip employees with the tools necessary to navigate the complexities of modern work environments effectively.
