UPDATE: Ireland has just announced a significant funding boost of €23 million for the country’s four European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIH) as the program enters its crucial second phase. This funding will kickstart more than 200 training courses and facilitate over 3,000 engagements nationwide, enhancing digital capabilities across businesses and public sector organizations.
Launched in 2023, the EDIH initiative aims to bolster the competitiveness of businesses, especially SMEs, by implementing digital transformation strategies, including advancements in AI, cybersecurity, and automation. With more than 450 hubs across Europe, these centers serve as vital resources, providing access to technical expertise, financial advice, and training to help businesses thrive in a digital-first economy.
In Ireland, the four hubs—CeADAR at University College Dublin, FactoryXChange in Mullingar, Entire at Tyndall National Institute in Cork, and Data2Sustain at Atlantic Technological University in Sligo—are set to play a pivotal role in this initiative. The program’s second phase, which runs until 2029, is projected to deliver 1,100 “Test Before Invest” projects alongside the aforementioned training and engagement initiatives.
Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment, Peter Burke, TD, stated, “Extending the European Digital Innovation Hub program in Ireland into Phase 2 ensures that our SMEs will continue to access world-class digitalization support.” He emphasized that the hubs have already made transformative impacts, enabling businesses to adopt cutting-edge technologies and sustainable practices.
Additionally, Enterprise Ireland CEO Jenny Melia expressed enthusiasm for the program, highlighting the importance of scaling access to specialized training and facilities. “By enhancing productivity and resilience, we are empowering businesses to remain competitive in an increasingly digital global economy,” she noted.
Notably, both FactoryXChange and CeADAR have been awarded the prestigious STEP Seal by the European Commission, which recognizes outstanding innovation projects. Meanwhile, the other two hubs are undergoing evaluation for this sought-after certification.
