Connectivity Alliance Launches Aliro 1.0 Standard for Global Access

BREAKING: The Connectivity Standards Alliance has just launched the Aliro 1.0 standard, a groundbreaking move aimed at transforming digital access control worldwide. This new standard will allow users to unlock doors using smartphones without needing to switch cards or keys, linking physical security with digital convenience.

This development comes as consumer demand for seamless digital experiences surges, particularly as smartphone and wearable technology becomes more integrated into everyday life. With Aliro 1.0, users can now transition effortlessly between environments—be it from a university classroom to their workplace or home—using just their mobile devices.

The launch of Aliro addresses the previously fragmented smart lock ecosystems by creating a unified protocol that integrates smart locks and digital wallets from major players including Apple, Google, and Samsung. Earlier attempts to establish similar standards were often hampered by limited compatibility and slow industry uptake, raising hopes that Aliro will succeed where others have struggled.

Aliro’s integration with mobile wallets means that access credentials can now be embedded directly into users’ devices, paving the way for a secure, single device solution for various access points. This shift towards managing both online and physical identities reflects a broader trend in digital security.

Security remains a top priority with Aliro, which utilizes asymmetric cryptography to ensure secure interactions between mobile devices and door access systems. This technology minimizes exposure of sensitive information, addressing privacy concerns effectively. The standard also supports various communication protocols, including NFC, Bluetooth LE, and UWB, facilitating tap-based or hands-free authentication methods.

Entities involved in the manufacturing and integration of access control systems are poised to benefit significantly from this new standard. Tobin Richardson, President and CEO of the Connectivity Standards Alliance, stated, “Aliro is solving the fragmentation that has held back digital key adoption, replacing it with a single interoperability standard built through Alliance Member collaboration.”

The collaboration of over 220 member companies, from silicon vendors to smartphone providers, emphasizes the commitment of industry leaders like Apple, Allegion, Aqara, HID, and Kwikset to rapidly advance certification and market readiness for Aliro solutions. Richardson added, “This is how the future of access control gets built. Lower integration complexity means faster innovation and shorter time to market.”

As the rollout progresses, users and businesses are encouraged to evaluate supported technologies and certification statuses to maximize the benefits of adopting Aliro. The initiative not only aims to enhance user experience but also intends to facilitate secure key sharing and maintain backward compatibility for older systems.

With this launch, the Connectivity Standards Alliance signals a significant shift in how we manage access and security. The industry now watches closely as ongoing developments promise to evolve Aliro further, with future updates likely addressing privacy standards and device support enhancements.

Stay tuned for more updates on this innovative standard that could redefine access control as we know it.
