Burnside Primary School in Rutherglen is gearing up for its annual Christmas fayre, inviting the local community to join in a day of festive activities. Scheduled for Saturday, December 6, 2024, the event promises to be an exciting opportunity for residents and families to celebrate the holiday season together.
Organised by the dedicated volunteers of the Burnside Parent Council, a registered charity, the fayre is a significant fundraiser for the school. Attendees can expect a variety of attractions including games, home-baked goods, and a raffle. A highlight of the event will be Santa’s workshop, where children can meet Santa and take part in festive activities with his elves.
Lyndsey Shakespeare, chair of the Burnside Parent Council, expressed her gratitude for the support received from local businesses. She remarked, “Every year, we get great support from many of the businesses in Burnside, and beyond. This year is no different with lots of amazing raffle prizes donated by local organisations like the Ace Place Nursery, HD Aesthetic, and Caledonia Gladiators.”
The fayre will also feature local vendors selling a diverse range of products, from homeware and beauty items to children’s books and clothing, creating a winter wonderland atmosphere for shoppers. Last year’s event was notably successful, raising nearly £6,000 to fund extracurricular activities, lunchtime clubs, and school trips for the children.
Head teacher Gayle McDonald highlighted the importance of the fayre, stating, “The Christmas fayre is always a highlight of the year for the kids and for the school. It’s also a great chance to bring the community into the school, and we’re looking forward to welcoming hundreds of people through our doors to start our Christmas celebrations.”
The fayre will run from 11:00 to 14:00 on December 6. Those interested in contributing to the raffle or running a stall are encouraged to contact the Parent Council at [email protected]. This event not only strengthens community ties but also supports the vibrant educational environment at Burnside Primary School.
